Spanish Steps Roma

This year I am very fortunate to travel throughout Europe again.  This time I am one of the chaperone’s for Fort Hayes High School.  One of my favorite city’s in the world is Rome (others are Jakarta, Florence and Singapore).  London is the final destination and I’ve heard they have great Indian food.

I will update more photos from the trip as soon as I can.

Studios on High Gallery Hits 25!

In 1986, four artists opened the doors to the public at 686 N. High St. offering a glimpse of their creative processes along with the opportunity to buy unique handmade pieces. Today, the gallery is comprised of 18 exhibiting artists. Judy Hoberg, one of the original artists and the creator of clay critters, still has her studio located in the gallery.

Paintings by Ryan Orewiler On Display at New Port Columbus Art Exhibit. Paintings by Columbus artist Ryan Orewiler are now on display in the Port Columbus Gateway to The Arts, an exhibit space located on the ticketing level in the hallway behind MoJoe Lounge.

Port Columbus Gateway to The Arts is a collaboration between the Columbus Regional Airport Authority and the Ohio Art League, which is a non-profit visual arts organization that coordinates the rotating exhibits on a quarterly basis.

Among the artwork on display are two painted aerials of Port Columbus International Airport.

“I’ve always enjoyed the non-traditional, aerial perspective of the runways and terminals from the airports I have visited throughout the world,” said Orewiler. “I also enjoy the feeling from the initial lift off of leaving a city and touching down to visit or revisit a destination. Two of my grandfathers were in the U.S. Air Force and inspired me to learn more about flight in general. I plan to one day get my pilot’s license.”

I asked 2011 AICUO second round judge Ryan Orewiler to send me some information about him and his judging process, and here’s what he sent me. Whether you’re participating in the competition or just looking for some good art advice, you should read what this phenomenal Ohio artist has to say:

“It is my privilege to be a juror for the AICUO Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts and supporting the development of young emerging artists and the development of the arts in Ohio.

I mainly analyze entries and portfolios (specifically for the AICUO award) based on the use of medium and personal expression. Below are various other elements I look for when selecting artists for this award (in no particular order).

• Present innovative concepts and risk taking

• Show knowledge in using design elements and fundamentals

• The artist’s statement should introduce artist’s intentions with their work, medium, process and direction

• Name of work and or series (simple or unique titles can effect the image of the series or
submitted work)

• Overall presentation of work should be consistent

I look forward to viewing your work and encourage you as an emerging artist to pursue your vision.”

“My work is based from a perspective and expression of everyday life,” explained Orewiler. “Along with contemporary art, I am also influenced by the architecture in historical, contemporary cities around the world. Since 2000, Orewiler has painted hundreds of cityscapes which have been collected and commissioned by individuals and corporations throughout the United States. His influence is the urban environment of his home in Columbus and the cities that he has traveled to around the world including Jakarta, Chicago, Paris, Florence, Berlin, Bali, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. He received a bachelor of fine arts in illustration from the Columbus College of Art and Design and is a member of Landfillart.org, Roy G Biv, Ohio Art League, German Village Art League (Founder and President), AbX Collective, Oil Painters of America and the Landscape Artists International.
